Student clinic
Purpose
The aim of the Student Clinic project is to set up, organise and evaluate a trial student clinic in internal medicine for both Bachelor’s and Master’s students. A team consisting of a first-year, a third-year and a fifth-year student will independently see a patient in consultation at the VUmc clinic of internal medicine.
Expected results
It is expected that medical students’ diagnostic and therapeutic competences develop faster and better if they are placed in real clinical settings from the beginning of their training, with their own ‘tailor-made’ responsibility. This is interesting for three reasons: it can improve the quality and efficiency of medical education and healthcare, it can enhance scientific insights in the field of (medical) pedagogy and provide more insight into (clinical) cognitive psychology.
